Overview

Activision Studios High Noon was responsible for developing this new incursion of Optimus Prime and company in video games.

Without the need to keep faithful to a screenplay, High Noon opted to take a trip to the past, placing us at the epicenter of the war that ravaged Cybertron, the world of Transformers, describing events that took place before the animated series.

The game consists of a campaign dedicated to Deceptions and one that brings us to the command of the Autobots. divided by a total of a dozen chapters.

While it is not exactly a masterpiece, the argument holds up from start to finish, with more than enough variety and exciting developments that will surely appeal the fans of the franchise.

In terms of mechanics, this is a pure third person shooter. As expected, the possibility of our character to become a vehicle has a leading role in the action, especially considering  that the change will affect your characteristics, movement and attacks. Strangely, these changes happen when you press L3. As a result, there are few times that we find ourselves in the form of vehicle, after having inadvertently clicked the stick during the heat of battle.

Multiplayer and final considerations

War for Cybertron has been created to think about the co-op multiplayer, allowing up to three players to play simultaneously. In case you opt for the single player mode, the spare pair of Transformers are controlled by the console itself, but keep in mind that the artificial intelligence of your comrades isn’t perfect. Considering what I’ve said above, I believe link to the online services of the HD consoles is more than essential to take full advantage of the game.

Experience gains that give access to new combat material and several classes with different powers are guaranteed. Six modes are present in the game, one being particularly inventive. Some of those are variations of classics like Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Conquest, and others.

The Escalation mode, which is highly reminiscent of the great Nazi Zombies in Call of Duty: World at War is pretty fun. Basically, players must defend the land from invasion by waves and more waves of enemies. In the course of action, you’ll gain acess to new locations and new weapons. It may not be entirely original, but you’ll enjoy it.

In conclusion, while it is not a monument to creativity, Transformers: Cybertron War delivers a solid shooter experience, with everything to entertain fans of the genre during this summer, and probably the best Transformer videogame to date.
